Induction light technology operates in a similar fashion to fluorescent technology, but without electrodes or filaments.  Fluorescent lamps use electrodes, which degrade with time, to “excite” gasses within the light tube to produce white light.   Unlike fluorescent lighting, induction does not use electrodes, but instead uses the principles of gas discharge and electromagnetic “induction” (the transmission of energy by way of a magnetic field) to create illumination.

With induction, mercury atoms (contained within the gas that is inside the light bulb) are  “excited” by the  introduction of energy emanating from an electromagnetic field produced by coils located on the outside of the bulb.  The excited atoms emit UV light, which like fluorescent technology, is converted to visible light by the phosphor coating on the inside of the bulb.

With a lifecycle of approximately 100,000 rated hours, induction lamps last significantly longer than any other lighting platform commonly available.  Induction is nearly double the lifespan of Light Emitting Diode (LED), which is rated to approximately 55,000 hours.  In addition to long life, with USLT’s high frequency electronic ballast technology, our products are 98 percent efficient – offering less than two percent power dissipation of the energy that is actually converted into light.  Additionally, USLT induction has a higher Coloring Rendering Index (CRI), a cooler operation temperature, and higher scotopic lumens per watt than traditional technologies that are now outdated.  Perhaps best of all, due to its lower equipment cost and greater energy efficiency, it offers superior performance and greater ROI than any other lighting technology.

The result:  A more durable, more energy efficient and lower maintenance product for our customers that can withstand greater temperature extremes and require little to no maintenance.  Induction’s multi-decade resilience makes it the ideal installation choice for hard-to-reach and more difficult to maintain outdoor environments such as roadways, tunnels, underpasses, and bridges – and even industrial and commercial indoor environments with challenging structural designs such as high ceilings and perimeters.
